Overtime and Compensatory Time
• Public employers have the option of substituting compensatory time off for overtime pay. Compensatory time off is also earned at 1.5 hours for every hour of overtime. Whether the employee will get money or time must be communicated to the employee before the overtime is worked.
•If it is a condition of work, as established by adopted policy, that employee will receive comp time instead of money, the applicant can decide whether to take the job or not.
•Employees may accumulate a maximum of 240 comp hours, which is equal to 160 overtime hours. Overtime in excess of that must be paid in cash.
