Arlet Cerino, a junior at Eastwood High School, recently lost her beloved sister in the tragic rollover on 1-10. Karla Cerino died after saving her daughter and son from the blazing wreck. She was able to hand her kids to Rodrigo Diaz; an admirable Samaritan who pulled over and offered his aid moments after the accident. 8-year-old Priscilla is recovering from third-degree burns in a Houston hospital. Her brother, 4-year-old Edgar, was being treated in El Paso and was last reported to be in stable condition. As the family continues to grieve their loss and look after Karla’s children, they could also use your support. The Eastwood HS Video Technology traveled to Anaheim, CA. to compete against the best young student broadcast journalists in the nation. The Eastwood Team attended the Student Television Network (STN) Convention where they competed in the Sweet Sixteen Student Broadcast competition. The contest consists of each team receiving a list of sixteen words, sixteen minutes to pick one word, and sixteen hours to produce an entire broadcast using the word chosen. Eastwood chose the word “Vocal” and competed in the Blue Division, which is the highest level that a team can compete in.  After sixteen long hours, the Eastwood team was awarded 3^rd place out of 71 teams. They were judged on impressive strong stories, strong overall production, creativity, and professionalism.

Aside from the prestigious Sweet 16 award, Daniel Rios, Christy Gutierrez, and Mariah Morales came home from the Student Television Network with another honor: a first-place trophy for their production on a public service announcement about cyberbullying. They were judged for their persuasiveness, for strong overall message, and for appropriate pacing.

Eastwood High School Video Technology student Andy Farias won 1st place for Web Design at the National Student Television Network Fall Nationals. He was awarded for his work on the KEHS website. As webmaster of ehsvideotech.com, he was judged for graphics, web design, and content. He entered the contest by submitting the URL for judges from across the nation to view.

Eastwood High School Video Technology student Sydny Gonzales made the cut as the National Student Television Network Conference Co-Host. Sydny competed for the slot and won the national competition to co-host the National Conference in Los Angeles next month. She was judged for the role based on professional presentation, poise on camera, and the ability to deliver the copy script with a natural, comfortable presentation.

Eastwood High School’s Video Technology Program is proud to announce five student entries placed in The Regional Lone Star Chapter of The National Television Academy. This award is given by National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (also referred to as a “Student Emmy”). The winners are as follows:
